    Kāshī, ein äußerst versierter Mathematiker, Astronom und wissenschaftlicher Instrumentenbauer, beschrieb in persönlichen Briefen an seinen Vater in Kashan (einer Provinz im Iran nahe Isfahan) die herausragende Rolle, die die mathematischen Wissenschaften in der Samarqand-Madrasa und im Observatorium spielten.
